Basic FactsEdit

Caninians are a mix of canines, some human, and an unknown alien species that is highly adaptable and very intelligent, and one non-sentient form. First encountered by the human race about 2075 A.D. They were very quick to become allies, as with all other races they encountered in the Age of Expansion III, when they developed slipspace engines.

The Caninian civilization, according to their archives, began around the fifteenth century B.C.E. This beginning age was where most of their culture was formed, becoming set in stone when a sudden discovery or change in beliefs, which was common until the seventh century. in this first period, they developed muzzleloading rifles and revolvers, proving their worth as an innovative race. Their government around this time was very close to a feudal system, but even the lowest ranking members of society were treated well and given plenty of rights.

The rank after the commoners was a standard footsoldier in the military, known as Jouks. These soldiers were well trained, well equipped, and were very devoted and loyal to their Kaptajn, or commander. After that were the Colonels, who kept up to 40 squads, called Joukkars, in good fighting condition. After that came the head Generals of the armada, known as Ustakas.

The next rank was as equally respected as an Ustaka, a Skarabba, or creator. Skarabbas were the brains of the city, and unlike most social ranks, their role was glorified and told in astonishing detail. Skarabbs began their day as any human would, with breakfast. Unusually, Caninian society did not believe in a higher being; they focused their beliefs solely on science, discovery, and logic. In fact, their most respected item's name, the Odenkaskab (an alminac of sorts), means the three words in their language, respectively. After breakfast, Skarabbas would go to their workshop and work on any inventions, books, or theories they had been working on. Any invention they completed was usually for them, to assist in troubles they faced in their daily life. However, some inventions were meant for public use, a few becoming impossible to not see in any community. Further on in the day, the Skarabb would most likely go to market to browse for supplies. According to records, popular fifth century Caninian tinkering items were flaredust, a much more potentially explosive mixture than gunpowder, while producing little flash, copper wires, hand cranks, microscopes, crystal prisms, and much more.

Around the evening, the Skarabba would eat a nutritious meal consisting of lean meats, wheats, and fruits, which is strange, since normal Earth canines eat strictly meat, with some exceptions. The meal was followed by a cataloging of interesting items from the Odenkaskab and any leisurely activities, like sitting by the fire, staring into space via telescopes, or even observing strange chemical reactions before falling asleep.

The next, and highest rank, we know almost nothing of, except that they were known as Perankais, and that they were extremely powerful.

The Era of The CellEdit

As far as we know, Caninian feudalism was at its strongest point around 789 A.D., and formed into a much more advanced and technologicly supreme culture. The most notable change was that they had quickly developed a new weapon technology evolving from revolvers and muzzleloaders. This new tech was developed by an especially talented Skarabba named Sunete Tespan. It was known as the repeater cell. The repeater cell took a step further into the First Era of Advancement, making all ballistics weapons obsolete. Whereas bullets had to be constantly manufactured and added an extra five pounds of weight to a soldiers' already heavy pack, only three or four assault rifle cells had to be carried, each weighing in at only a few ounces. Even though they looked like glorified rifle clips attached to fancy assault rifles, pistols, launchers, and more, they were far different than that.

Cells work like this. the heat distribution chamber, or the popularily nicknamed "hot pocket" made up the bottom of the "clip". The cell was not much larger than a bullet, positioned at the top of the clip, in the chamber. When the trigger was pulled, the hammer struck the back of the cell causing the internal mechanisms to fire up, and form a small ball of "solid lightning"at the tip of the cell. A small mirror-and-crystal redirector then launched it foward into an EMP focuser, which held it long enough to turn into a mini-sphere of superheated plasma, then launching it at high speeds, sometimes up to 4,000 feet per second. The process was quick, and it built up heat relatively quickly, requiring it to build up in the heat sink at the bottom of the cell chamber. Eventually the "pocket" was overloaded, and had to temporarily disrupt the firing process to cool down.

Among other advancements in this age were the discovery of how to engineer tanks, armored personell carriers, and even aircraft. Life support systems for space were still being researched by scientists, but no known system for creating airlocks, artificial gravity systems, or large scale weapon cells existed. And either way, they were too busy adapting cells for vehicular propulsion to research effectively. Aircraft studies show that fighter and commercial craft were driven much like craft from the 20th century, but with some serious upgrades. The one to six main engines were fueled by plasma, which was transferred by a set of cells modified to fire plasma bolts in a continuing stream, while a secondary cell in the back burned a different kind of plasma, one designed to produce a great outward force. A modified redirector aimed the force backward, providing additional thrust. The cells, as usual, overheated constantly, so a cycler fed in new cells whenever one overheated, giving it time to cool down. This system allowed aircraft to accelerate to around 300 miles per hour. It was a slow start for the Caninians, and they believed they could travel much faster.

Their other vehicles operated similarily, with direct-exhaust engines and weapon cells for mounted machine guns or artillery.

Political advancements in this age were very drastic; shifting power to the common people in less than ten years, starting out with a feudal system, was more than the higher ranking citizens could handle, and riots broke out in the Senate buildings. Within this period, two sides formed: the Aemokrats, or democratic party, that consisted of Skarabbas who wanted change, backed up by the common people and a large portion of the civilizations' Jouks. The other party was the Pyodaals, or feudal party, which consisted of Ustakas and Kaptajns, and likely the Perankai. This period was known as the Great Partition.

The Pyodaals did not have the numbers of the Aemokrats, but they had great authority. They harshly punished any resistance of their power, mostly with public humiliation. Sometimes the pressure on some Aemokrats was so great they became Pyodaals on the spot, or sometimes, very rarely, commited sucide. However, the Aemokrats would not give up. They decimated symbols of Perankai and Ustaka authority, held massive protests, and even convinced the Kaptajns to join them. Even a few Ustakas joined the Aemokrats, leaving the Pyodaals helpless, punishing less and less Aemokrats, fearing they would enrage their leaders, triggering a massive, violent uprising. Eventually, the Pyodaals handed over all authority to the Aemokrats in 968 A.D. The commoners held a massive celebration they called the Slatves ve Oslavier. This feast is held annually on August 23.

The Second Great ExpansionEdit

The Second Great Expansion marked a very important time in Caninian history, beginning with the new revelation of direct democracy. The Aemokrats quickly formed a council of their most prominent members, such as Xenil Sermak, Bohl Daq, Anfarc Derik, and Cevelt Xi. These members formed a set of laws very similar to our laws: no murdering, no stealing, no malicious destruction of property, etc. These laws were followed willingly across the newly formed democratic empire, with few lawbreakers. The capitol city of Cania had grown significantly in the past decade, covering an area roughly the size of three New York Cities, and housing a population of about 9 million Caninians. The Caninians also started using the first known solar panels to power their electric lights, factories, radios, and more, making excessive use of commercially available cells. The most exiting development was not in lifestyle or culture, but in technology. Former Skarabbas worked tirelessly to achieve the ultimate goal of space travel, and in 1254 A.D., they finally produced the first spacecraft. These craft, nicknamed "diablos" due to the fact that in reentry, the bottom of the craft heated up significantly, was meant for placing satellites in orbit, making them the first known race to send satellites and manned craft into space in the same year.

The first spacecraft were meant for satellite placement, but by 1340 they served to terraform the planet's three moons. These terraforming missions were successful, spawning colonies on the largest moon, Surka, within a year, giving the moon an atmosphere and vegetation very quickly. By this time the Caninian population had grown to 3 billion, and cities were getting crowded, so Skarabbs worked to develop larger ships, and by 1380 there were large cruisers terraforming other planets in the solar system, even gas giants. The Caninian race seemed to have reached its height at this point, but the Skarabbs still wanted more. They worked in secret on ways to travel quickly through large expanses of space. Large power cells designed for speed would overload and possibly explode carrying their own weight leaving the planet's atmosphere, but Sunete Tespans son, Sothal Tespan, developed a theory of a warping technology he called slipspace engines. The way they work is generally unknown, but the early models ripped normal space apart with brute force, sent themselves into slipspace, and emerged at a destination far away unharmed. It was discovered that this method was inaccurate, and that the engine's coordinate system could drop off the ship several kilometers off course, so Sothal developed a new coursing system that read the entire ships' status before jumping, and redesigned the coordinate reading, jumping, and exit system, so the ship would avoid jumping and exiting right next to another ship. This way the coordinates could be selected carefully and quickly, and the transition time was shaved in half. His first engine got an entire capitol ship, crew and all, to and back another system in a month, and when the records came in, the farthest off-course the ship had been was a centimeter.

These engines were still highly experimental, and were not being mass produced, since the resources needed to make them were a bit rare and expensive. The Caninians were satisfied, nonetheless, and resumed their lifestyle. Up until the Third Great Expansion did they remain undisturbed. This period is wherethe first known non-nuclear mass destruction weapon was tested, as well. The Higmot Directed Energy Weapon (HDEW) was basically a death laser, causing havoc in a 2 kilometer radius from the impact zone. these were soon mounted on ships and used effectively for neutrelizing asteroid threats.

Great Expansion 3Edit

The third great expansion began around 1500 A.D., marking the third and final mass advance in Caninian tech and culture. The Caninians started using resources from other worlds to start mass producing the Sothal slipspace drive. The Caninians encountered many other races, and instead of war, the decided to form alliances with whoever was happy with it. However, some races were too arrogant and proud to accept "assistance" from alien races. This was proven when a simple request of diplomacy to an alien race known as the Tiralus triggered a message saying "Begone, worthless plague!", followed by a barrage of missiles that heavily damaged the Inventive and Tyrannus flagships. This was the earliest known intentional attack on the Caninian race.

In 1589, during the Slatves ve Oslavier, the Tiralian race struck the colony world of Koblak, killing 3 million Caninians. This tragic milestone sparked the Great Caninian-Tiralian war. The war started off in 1591 with the Tiralian fleet attempting to breach the Alpha Magnusa system. The Caninians, fueled with rage and hatred, boarded their ships effortlessly. The Tiralian race was shocked to see how small they were compared to these large, bipedal killing machines, seeking revenge for their friends and families. Within an hour, every ship in the Tiralian formation was boarded, and all of its members brutally killed, taken hostage, or even eaten, since it was discovered the Tiralians had a high nutritional value to Caninians. The Tiralians, not the race to give up, sent reinforcements to counter the slaughter of their fleet, destroying several Caninian ships, at the expense of half of their own fleet.

The Caninians shifted their government to emergency-military, where most citizens were required to fight in the army. They were well adapted to this change, since the Caninians always kept in mind the threat of war, training themselves well for anything that could happen. within a few months almost every Caninian in existance was a well-trained, combat-ready soldier. Orbital defenses were established around colonies and the planets of allies, and slipspace engine production soared. HDEWs were mounted on almost every ship, and large weapon cells were fitted as backup. The Tiralian warlords were shocked to see how violently this new enemy reacted to the slaughter of their own kind, and ordered a mass counterattack to soften the Caninian's defenses. However, they did not know that the defense platforms were manned by several Caninians, and by killing them, they lost more men to enraged soldiers seeking revenge. In 1690, when the war reached a peak, the Caninian population had soared to over 30 billion, and each of them had an instinct to kill all Tiralians. The Tiralians had an advantage of being smaller and slightly more numerous, but that seemed to be a mere annoyance to most soldiers.

In 1713, the Tiralians struck Cartol, a major Caninian world, unaware, killing a billion Caninians, and suffering less than 20 thousand casualties. The sheer magnitude of this loss was devastating to the Caninians, but as usual, they sought revenge, with a newfound murderous twist. The Tiralian homeworld, Ektolio, Was the basis of Tiralian political and military decisions, even if it was not the most thickly populated world. In 1719, a force of 2 million Caninian shock troopers landed on Ektolio without notice, and decimated the small towns of Toralis, Swexalus, and Ulunus with no effort. Overnight, they hit the capitol, and decimated the entire city. Tiralians watched their fellow citizens die painfully and get eaten helplessly while they were getting their own chest cavities gouged out in cold blood. within a year, Ektolio was nothing more than a cinder, its inhabitants either dead or dying slowly from fatal wounds left by the shock teams.

This slaughter Forced the Tiralians into retreat, resulting in victory for the Caninians. The new victors held a massive celebration feast in honor of those lost, and, of course, of the defeat of their enemy. Things went smoothly, making new allies fast across the galaxy with the help of slipspace travel. In 1776, the Caninian population was 34 billion, and with the population of their allies added, well over 800 billion. The government was in a slightly more relaxed state of emergency-military, and they opened up positions in their army for alien races in 1789. Back on Cania, tecnologic breakthroughs were coming in at alarming rates. The first known maglev trains were put into mass production, and nanocell tech was evoloving at incredible rates. We also learned from around the timeline mark of 1792 that Caninians live very long compared to humans, approximately a few hundred thousand years, unless something kills them. It is found that Caninians alien DNA actually is a form of non-sentinent life, yet canine DNA overrides that, giving them intelligence while giving them the ability to live very long.

Events took a tragic turn when Supreme Caninian General Karalus Ophilius was murdered at the hands of a band of Tiralians in 1803. Luckily, his son Kaius Ophilius was there to take his place, being crowned Supreme General at age 21 in 1825.

The Sub-Era of KaiusEdit

Kaius followed in the footsteps of his father by leading the Caninians to become the richest race known. In 1832 he led an assault on a Tiralian-controlled asteroid belt, sustaining no casualties. He was also a political juggernaut, making intelligent diplomatic decisions, and reforming the economy in times of crisis. He was also the creator of the Caninian Trading Network (CTN), reaching the farthest corners of his vast empire. By 1858, he successfully had taken over the Saggitarius arm and a large portion of the Orion arm. in 1914, they began intercepting radio signals from a remote star system known as Sol. The signals were few and weak. In 1939 the signals increased in frequency greatly, and they were able to make out some of the words. Among them were "Nazi invasion of Poland" and mention of someone named Adolf Hitler. They noticed the signals were of an old radio style, and transmitted messages speaking of conflict. Some Caninians recieved clear signals from the interceptions, and began to take sides in this distant war. Almost all took the sides of the patriotic and peace-seeking "Americans" and the "British" and listened with horror when they intercepted signals from the mysterious Nazis about the mass murder of "Jews". These interceptions were eventually broadcasted. They rejoiced with the Americans with their victory, even if the civilization did not know of their existance.

Kaius even personally attempted to send signals to the newfound human race, but did not prevail, since the radios were of too old a model to recieve signals correctly. The failed signals were interpreted as static on airways and radios the humans posessed. Eventually Kaius gave up, and simply listened to the humans' signals. In the 1970s he once again attempted to contact them, this time sending in only a few words, since their radios still did not interpret signals correctly.

Kaius sent probes to the Sol system to attempt to contact them further, but most got sucked into a gas giant or flew past the humans' homeworld. In 2011, Kaius gained access with a long-distance probe to the humans' internet system, and put it up for public use. All human languages were learned quickly and stored in documents. This era Kaius dubbed the Era of Connection. In 2074, Kaius finally gave up on listening in and sent a convoy to intercept a human rocket on its way to a blood red planet named Mars. When they arrived out of slipspace, they intercepted panic signals from the dissapointingly puny craft, and quickly shot off it's communication's systems. Kaius himself had come personally on this trip, and gathered a small shock force to board the craft.

They disabled the craft's engines first, and then latched onto the veiwport windows. They looked inside to see small bipedal creatures with hair only clearly visible on their heads and portions on their faces. They were obviously in a panic situation, proven when one young human looked out the window, and quickly pointed out the Caninians to his colleagues, who stayed as far away from the window as possible. The team took a small, portable airlock and attatched it to the top of the craft, and bored through very thin armor to reach the interior. The craft was in a darkened state, with all lights turned off, most likely by the humans to hide themselves. Varskusk Halus, a close friend of Kaius and his right-hand-man, was the first to reconnect the electric system and find a human. He easily communicated with the human, named Tadac Chibougieu, a French astronaut.

Any hostilities were quickly put to rest when the Caninian fleet landed on Earth. Even still, one paranoid human fired at Kaius' shoulder, but the tissue quickly grew back, proving Kaius had a rare case of Skoluk's disease, which made him regenerate tissue and vital organs without sustaining injury. In 2076 the Caninian-Human pact ensured everlasting peace between the two civilizations. The pact was signed by Kaius, Varskusk, Caninian political leader Halku Dal'kovan, and U.S. president Lincoln Segar, European government leader Leo Delouise, and Japanese prime minister Okanao Ubedai. In 2079 the human race used weapon cell tech to power weapons, vehicles, and buildings. In 2082 the new Human Empire stretched from Earth, now a thriving center of mixed cultures, economic success, and near political perfection, to the Alpha Magnusa system, which was mostly under Caninian control, and few humans actually made permanent cities.

In 2091, the Tiralians made another run at the Caninians, encountering CTN members escorting human colony supplies to the Perseus arm. The Tiralians manged to make their presence known, before cutting down two human and three CTN ships, killing at least three thousand total. The remaining ships opened fire without hesitation, destroying four Tiralian missile cruisers before the rest got away. News of this reached Earth rather quickly, sending humans into panic, shortly before getting them angry enough to declare war on their Tiralian attackers. In 2092, the new U.S. president Jerry Shuker sent a strike formation of cruisers armed with nuclear missiles, which the Caninian race had never seen before. They were impressed by the destructive power the humans could fit into a small missile. The Tiralians were more disgusted than awed, but it was probably because they were the ones being decimated instead of their enemies.

Within months the Tiralians were put down again, no match for Kaius's brilliant tactics. In 2100 the Caninians and humans threw a celebration to the new century, followed by a speech from important leaders and social figures. A massive feast was held, which included especially rare Canis Yak meat, a new introduction to the humans. One remarked, "It's glowy, it's blue, and it tastes like barbecue ribs! I love this stuff!" A major spot of this grand celebration was the Executive Operations platform Glorious Monarch, where Kaius, Jerry Shuker, Varskusk, and even Sothal Tespan made appearences to the festival, where they shared culture, technology, and mainly held festivities in honor of each other and the start of the 22nd century. The site of the first Tiralian battle in the Alpha Magnusa system was decorated with a platform designed for mermorials, and Earth had a massive New Year's party that spanned exactly 853.637 square miles and over 800,000 guests, being dwarfed by the celebration on Cania, with over 4 billion guests attending, including the 1 billion humans visiting. It was also noted that in each system the Caninians or humans owned, a series of probes set off celebration lights, to let all travelers know what was happening. The entire Orion arm and Saggitarius arm were in full festive spirit.

On March 3, 2100, the Caninians and humans made two massive mermorials on Earth and Cania, marking a new century of peace and prosperity for the now super-empire. And prosperous it was. The human race started accepting Caninians into their ranks as full-fledged soldiers, and vice versa. New York City had nearly quadrupled in size in the past few months, thanks to Caninian building technology, and was completely eco-friendly.Cania's capitol, Argrazi, had doubled in size. Kaius opened up a massive colonization project set for the perseus and Cygnus arms on April 9, 2100. Among other projects, Earth's government started building large cities that float with the support of only a thin series of large elevators on the atmosphere. With the help of their caring allies, they completed the first one by September 1. They dubbed it New Vegas, for it's central position over Las Vegas. On Cania, There was a revelation in the first underwater city, with airlocks filled with Auter, A breathable water compound. It doesn't get the clothes wet, but behaves much like water as a liquid, and is 100% transparent.

Among other advancements were the additions of HDEWs to human ships and slipspace engines on smaller ships, so they did not have to board large carriers and shipyards before jumping. On October 4th, 2100, the Intergalactic Human Trade Federation (IGHTF) was founded, letting humans build more colonies and trade freely with multiple civilizations.

Normally in history, Caninian federations almost never fared well with groups that branched off from their main body, but this time, the Caninians accepted the formation, even if they did so reluctantly. The CTN was further expanded with trade platforms where goods like cells, gold, fine jewelry, carpets, guns, and even old tapes of soap operas were traded en masse with the IGHTF. Both civilizations became rich with the productions of the other, if they weren't already.

On October 28th, 2100, the long-awited Yellowstone super-volcano eruption finally happened, but with much more grim consequences than expected. Las Vegas, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Seattle, Vancouver, Fresno, and several other cities were decimated in only a few hours, leaving millions homeless and hundreds of thousands dead. New Vegas was safe from the initial eruption, but was swamped with the skyrocketing ash that followed, causing parts of it to collapse. The CTN sent dozens of rescue craft to evacuate survivors to places like Bangkok, New York, Cania, and London.

The eruption rendered the Earth's government torn, and the CTN postponed tens of thousands af trade shipments just to bring medical supplies to Earth. Kaius sent special frigates to suck the ash out of the atmosphere. By November 2100, there were massive-scale reconstruction projects all around North America.

On January 2, 2101, CTN and IGHTF trade routes opened again, and an economic boom followed with the goods waiting to be sold for so long. Argrazi's economy fared especially well, allowing them to give 50% of their gains to Jerry Shuker, in order to assist in rebuilding.

The Final Tiralian AssaultEdit

With the eruption costing about 2 trillion in damages, and the CTF recovering and attempting to regain hold of the situation with all the delayed trade shipments, Kaius found himself in a bad situation. He was forced to direct money away from military research towards repairs, and there was a minor economic crisis from 2101-2109. The other members of the Inter-Species Economic Management Bureau (ISEMB) destroyed almost 13 quadrillion credits in cash to prevent inflation. While the Orion and Sagittarius arms recovered, the Tiralians decided to make themselves heard again. They built a Tier 1 Battlecruiser, the T.N.D. Rainmaker. At 45 kilometers long, 3 high, and 5 wide at its widest, it was equipped with advanced cloaking, slipspace, and weapons systems. When it launched a test assauld on the star system Tybenis, On April 15, 2101, HDEW weapons platforms simply left charred marks in the shape of the impact radius. The two hospitable planets were reduced to cinders, all life, Caninian or other, was wiped out in that system. It took only a few minutes for the rest of the galaxy to realize this, and while humans declared war with the Tiralians with gusto, the Caninans didn't even need a ruling. Emergency-military rules were applied, super-carriers were being pumped out at a furious rate, and scientists were developing a Battlecruiser of their own. The humans had built theirs in a matter of 1.5 years. It was dubbed the Leviathan, after the fabled sea monster that swallowed entire fleets, and devastated port cities. 50 kilometers long, 7 wide, and 0.2 high. It had hundreds of HDEWs, but for each one, there were probably 10 missile pods, filled with 50 Ares-class Nuclear Ballistic Missiles each. The Caninans built theirs, the Trigger Finger, about three years later. By that point, the Rainmaker had destroyed 5 quintillion in damage costs, and about half of the Caninian/human fleets. The 70 kilometer long, 5 wide, and 2 tall Trigger Finger was launched into the skies with the cheers of billions of Caninians, humans, and other allied races. It was mounted with over 1000 brand-new Higmot Particle Accelerator Railguns (HPARs), A pivoting glassing beam, and 3 million nuclear warheads ready to fire.

The Rainmaker reached Alpha Magnusa on February 25, 2105. The Leviathan met the ship, and, obviously, a massive fight ensued. 30,000 frigates and carriers were destroyed. Bothe Battlecruisers took heavy damage, the Leviathan from the Rainmaker's 45,000 citadel missile pods, the Rainmaker from barrage upon barrage of nukes and HDEWs. The Rainmaker eventually pulled out, but not before sending several cruise missiles into the remainders of the human fleet. This first draw marked a series of long, grueling battles. The Trigger Finger tested the HPARs with smashing success on the T.N.D. destroyer, the Vlostingkof, folding it in half with a single shot. The Rainmaker slammed against Caninan and human forces time and again, every time either retreating into another system, or melting the entire fleet. It was inching closer and closer to Cania, very slowly. In 2109, it was discovered that a second, unnamed Tiralian Battlecruiser had been made. It was slightly larger than the Rainmaker, but was equipped with a massive railgun that decimated many a Caninian super-carrier in a few shots. It was dubbed the Icer by the humans, and the name stuck. through the next 10 years, the Icer and Rainmaker crushed fleet after fleet, charring worlds, killing millions. The Leviathan had sustained heavy damage, and had gone into repair after getting hit by a single shot from the Icer. in 2120, the Trigger Finger made a final stand at Cania, facing the Icer, Rainmaker, and 250 carriers. The battle began with the Caninians firing all weapons at the starboard side of the Icer, forcing it into a sharp turn. The railgun smashed into a large carrier, disabling it temporarily. The Rainmaker opened fire on the Trigger, and vice versa. The Rainmaker's hull was immediately punctured, clearing out 3 decks of troops, generators, and cargo. The Icer restabilibzed its railgun, and, going into an off-balance turn, fired and hit the communications line of the Trigger. The Rainmaker then targeted the Trigger's engines, which, through a horrible design flaw, was also where the power source was. The Trigger FInger could now not move, or fire any devastating weapons with accuracy. The Icer pulled out of its roll, and prepared to fire directly at the center of the Trigger, and the Rainmaker armed all of its cruise missiles. Then, out of nowhere, an allied Sonvoan trading ship appeared. Sonvoan trading ships were the lifeblood of the CTN, and were half the size of the Rainmaker. They carried no weapons, only several cubic tons of supplies. This one, hearing the distress signals coming from Cania, loaded itself with massive amounts of highly reactive metals and water. It slammed into the Icer head-on, causing a massive fireball seen from the moon colonies, and melting the ship's slipspace reactor, causing a power surge that killed the power on the Rainmaker, but, through a freaky coincidence, restoring it on the Trigger. It used the remaining engines to pivot slightly upward, and aimed the glassing beam. A bright purple beam of light tore apart the Rainmaker, and ended the power surge.
